When I received my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM designation in 1986, less than one-quarter of all CFP® certificants were female. Today, women make up just 23% of the CFP® population. I am determined to finally change that statistic after 30 years.
Ten years before that, when I started my career as an accountant, women were not permitted to have credit cards; the only way to get one was to have your husband ask the bank to issue one for you on his account. I wasn't married, so they told me to ask my father to do it. Can you imagine? No wonder women, especially women my age, lack confidence to make financial and investment decisions. We've come a long way, baby, but we've still got a long way to go.
Women are lacking the Y chromosome, not the "$ chromosome." The women, and men, at Budros, Ruhlin & Roe understand this and are dedicated to making sure our female clients, single or married, are comfortable and confident in making financial decisions for their families. I'm proud to work with our great clients and our outstanding employees, and I'm especially proud that Budros, Ruhlin & Roe has always been a leader in providing opportunities for women in the financial planning profession.
