Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. Receives Schwab IMPACT® Award
Best-in-Business for Excellence in Business Management
November, 2011 - Charles Schwab, a leading provider of custodial, operational and trading support for nearly 7,000 independent investment advisory firms, announced the winners of its sixth annual IMPACT Awards® – an awards program that recognizes advisors and firms that have advanced the industry.
Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, received the Best-in-Business Award for its excellence in business management during a ceremony at Schwab’s IMPACT® 2011 conference in San Francisco. The fee-only wealth management company was founded by Jim Budros and Peggy Ruhlin, who continue as firm principals, along with Dan Roe and John Schuman. Today, the firm manages more than $1.5 billion in assets.
“We were founded on a fundamental commitment to fee-only financial advisory work, when this was a radical concept,” says Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. principal Peggy Ruhlin.
The firm’s best practices in business management revolve around a strong focus on strategic planning, resulting in a unique career development and incentive compensation plan for staff, a dedicated business development team, and innovative technology tools for clients and employees. Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. has tripled its business over the past 10 years.
The company’s “GPS” (Goals/Performance/Satisfaction) program is a roadmap for career and leadership development. Unique to the financial services industry, professional employees are compensated for superior client service and technical knowledge, not for business development or sales. Its Incentive Compensation Plan rewards desired behaviors needed to achieve the firm’s strategic goals, with additional compensation for Innovation, Initiative and Problem-Solving.
Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc. created its client web portal, “My BRR Office,” as the central repository for each client’s information and for interactive communication between clients and firm employees. In November, the firm released a “BRR app” for iPad/iPhone and Android phones and tablets.
“This year’s IMPACT® Award winners raise the bar for excellence in client service and exemplary business practices for the independent RIA industry,” said Bernie Clark, executive vice president and head of Schwab Advisor Services. “We commend them for their dedication to investors, the industry and their communities, and we thank them for providing a learning opportunity for other advisors by sharing their best practices and achievements.”
Schwab made a $10,000 donation to The Budros, Ruhlin & Roe Fund of The Columbus Foundation on behalf of Budros, Ruhlin & Roe, Inc.
